There is increasing talk about the energy transition with the use of renewable energies, such as onshore and offshore wind, solar and hydroelectric, as well as green hydrogen and biomass, all paving the way towards reducing global emissions. Some of these energies have been in development for years, while others are just beginning to be heard. And you, do you know which types of renewable energies will be most used in 2021?

Currently, there is a Global Agenda of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) that calls for increased support for research, projects, practices, management, storage, and renewable energy deployment; and these agreements call for final compliance by the year 2030. - Offshore wind energy

It is the energy coming from the air currents that arise in the seas and that are transformed into electric energy. Currently, this resource is considered the most profitable ecological energy, surpassing even onshore wind power. Currently, Europe is betting big on offshore wind power; an example of this is found on the Dutch coast where 94 offshore autogenerators have been installed in the second most powerful wind farm in existence.

Japan is also aiming to meet various objectives to continue to make progress in the development of offshore wind energy, thus freeing it from its energy dependence on coal.

At the same time, South America is expected to become the region with the highest investment in offshore wind power worldwide. Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina are set to invest in renewable energies for the next few years, and Chile and Costa Rica consider it very favorable and wise to invest in the management of offshore wind power.

- Onshore wind energy

This energy is generated thanks to the transformation into electrical energy of the movements produced by the air currents produced at terrestrial level. It is an inexhaustible, clean and renewable energy resource. Among the European countries that make the most use of onshore wind energy are Denmark, the United States, Germany and Spain, which also makes significant use of onshore wind energy.

A great achievement of Spain in terms of wind energy use during 2020 is the increase of wind energy by 14.9% in the autonomous community of Galicia. This will translate into a cheaper cost in the payment for electricity consumption. This increase represents 18.2% of all wind energy generated in the country.

- Green hydrogen

On the road to energy transition, green hydrogen is considered an ideal renewable energy. Renewable hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water, which generates electricity or heat through energy sources such as wind power. This process, which emits no CO2, converts water into hydrogen and oxygen gas molecules.

Green or renewable hydrogen is an energy that can be stored and even restored. It is a gas that does not affect or contribute to the greenhouse effect, so it is not toxic since it is produced from renewable resources. Countries such as Mexico and Chile abound in this type of renewable energy. Asia and Europe are at the forefront in the development of projects for the efficient use of hydrogen.

As we can see, some types of renewable energies are much better known and exploited than others; and we are sure that with technological advances even more will appear. The important thing is that, as human beings, we care about taking care of our planet. Although many laws, environmental policies and regulations depend on governments, all of us as citizens can do our bit.
